| | We take you out of Kathmandu and head to the northern eastern extreme border edge of Nepal close to its transition into Tibet. This is a journey in itself from the Capital of Nepal and passes through some interesting terrain over some 5-6 hours. Finally reaching our starting point for this trip we take some time out to relax and explore over the afternoon in a wonderful river / mountain setting with no shortage of adventure options available. A luxury tented camp is our first nights accommodation perched high above the Bhoti Kosi River and accessed only via a captivating suspension bridge. Tomorrow is the start to a fascinating 5 day trek into the upper foothills of the Himalayas just short of the Tibetan plateau just in the distance. Our destination is the Duganagadi Fort situated at an altitude of 2084-m and built in 1854 by the Nepali Army to attack the Bhot (Tibetans), located in the region behind the Himalaya. The dispute occurred between Nepal and Tibet due to the mistreatment to the Nepali merchants by the Tibetan authorities. During this time many border skirmishes occurred. Finally a truce was signed on March 1856. The Nepal Trade commission was set up in Lhasa to protect the interests of the Nepali merchants. After brunch, on Day 2 we take a short bus ride up to the bridge at Larcha, just below the village of Ermashing. This is the beginning point for the trek. The trail winds through a number of small, interesting Sherpa and Tamang villages. This historic trail was once the lucrative trade route between Nepal and Tibet. As we walk you approach the pass, you can catch a glimpse of an old fortress, Duganagadi. This is where our campsite will be for the 1st evening and the first of three more nights over a five day trek. |
