BIKING: EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST
- passport with double entry visa - camera & film - Fanny pack or something to carry your camera in - Helmet - cycling gloves (long finger ones are good) & socks - cycling shoes (shoes should have stiff base) - trainers or comfortable shoes for wearing around camp site - cycling shorts (2 - 3 pairs) - cycling tights or long pants - T-shirts/cycling shirts (2 - 3) - Camelbak or at least 2 water bottles - warm hat - warm gloves - Sleeping bag (-15 degree) These can be hired from HMB - warm socks - good sunglasses (and spares), wrap around type - track pants or similar for wearing around camp in the evening - sweater or warm sweatshirt or pile jacket - long-sleeved shirt (an extra layer or to keep sun off) - good quality warm waterproof jacket - sun cream (SPF 30 or more) and lip sun block - moisturizer (it is very dry on your skin) - Vaseline (for dry nose and lips) - bright powerful torch (preferably one you can stand in your tent) and is also good in gloomy monastery’s - batteries - hydration salts, sweets - personal first aid - Personal toiletries; soap, shampoo, shaver etc. (if you are going to wash!) - towel and/or face towel - Underwear etc. - clothing for wear around town - clothes pegs (so that your clothes don't get blown away when drying) - Bike (fully serviced) with wide comfy saddle or gel cover ….. for the longer rides ! - Don't use a racing saddle unless you’re used to it – gel seats or covers are often popular - spare parts etc. for your bike, e.g. brake pads, tubes, chain lube ... - Strong tape to tape up box when you repack your bike at the end. (From KTM HMB can also box bikes) - washing powder to wash your clothes - mirror - Brufen 400mg approx. (anti-inflammatory &/or other pain killer.) - Cough mixture, lozenges - Face mask to keep out dust ( 3M- simple hardware sanding mask) Tibet only LUXURY ITEMS CHECKLIST
- Walkman/Discman - A Good book or more - Power bars of some sort - Collapsible bucket (Usually available from camping shops.) - (Good to wash clothes in and scoop water over yourself when washing at a stream or river!) Remember you'll need clothes for riding, relaxing around camp, travelling and walking and other cities in both hot and cold weather. Tibet & Ladakh weather can be very unpredictable. BIKE CARE: EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST - Cloth for bike cleaning - Park tool brush to remove dirt and clean sprockets - Bike lube – teflon based - WD40 aerosol spray….. or a teflon based spray is better - 2 x old tooth brushes (good for cleaning) - Puncture repair kit - Your own bike seat (if you wish) that can be fitted to the bike - SPD peddles can be fitted, if you wish to bring them - Helmets are available, however you may prefer to bring your own - Rear panniers racks can be fitted by HMB - Pannier bags are available from HMB if required - HMB have a limited number of pumps, bike tools and repair kits so it’s best to have some basic tools and pump with you.
